While the Icarus Theatre Collective’s tour of Romeo & Juliet has been on hiatus for the Christmas period, cast, crew and creatives have been busy at work, back in the rehearsal room. Welcoming two new cast members (Nicole Anderson and Georgina Periam) into the fold, Kaiden and the rest of the Icarus team have been rehearsing for Spring Awakening, which will tour in rep alongside Romeo & Juliet.
Made popular by the 2006 Broadway rock musical adaptation by Duncan Sheik (music) and Steven Sater (lyrics and book), Spring Awakening is a play exploring the tumultuous sexual discovery of a group of teenagers in a sexually-oppressive late 19th century Germany. Written by Frank Wedekind in 1890-1891 the play tackles a variety of difficult and sensitive subjects including: puberty, rape, child abuse and masturbation. Kaiden will be playing the role of Hanschen Rilow, a young teen struggling to come to terms with his homosexuality.
Spring Awakening will preview at the Cockpit Theatre, Marylebone, London on Saturday 12th January 2013 before opening at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford on 17th January. Tickets to see the preview can be booked here and a full touring schedule for both Spring Awakening and Romeo & Juliet can be found at the Icarus Theatre Collective’s website here.
* Please note that Spring Awakening includes nudity and scenes of a sexual nature, and as such is not suitable for younger audiences.
